Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act. 15 USC ยงยง 1125(d) and 1117 (1999). The ACPA was enacted to protect trademark owners from third parties ("cybersquatters") who register a trademark as a domain name, with the intent to use it in commerce to trick customers to coming to the website by accident, or to sell it to the trademark owner at an above-market price.
The American Cybersquatting Protection Act. This act provides civil liability for the bad faith registration or use of a trademark or service mark of another as a domain name. It is aimed at remedying "cyber-squatting." President Clinton signed it into law on November 29, 1999.
