Definitions for "Adjunct faculty"
previously known as part-time faculty, visiting staff faculty are those instructors hired on a semester-to-semester contract basis. Adjunct faculty normally are only permitted to teach less than nine load hours per semester. None of the programs or procedures in the Guidelines apply to adjunct faculty (see professional growth information on the Adjunct Faculty Association and the Renewal web sites)
Adjunct faculty are instructional, clinical, or research faculty, whose primary professional efforts are in another department, college, or outside of the University. Adjunct faculty are considered auxiliary faculty and rarely serve on a full-time basis.
Part-time employees of the college who serve as course instructors, course developers, evaluators of prior learning (see Credit by Evaluation) and mentors.
