Definitions for "Aij"
Activities Implemented Jointly. A pilot scheme allowing Parties to invest in emission-reduction projects in other industrialised or developing countries. Effectively a ‘learning by doing’ phase of Joint Implementation and the Clean Development Mechanism, with the difference that it does not allow the investing country to receive credit for the emissions saved.
Actions Implemented Jointly. The term assigned to joint implementation projects undertaken during the pre-year 2000 pilot phase, created at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's first Conference of the Parties in April 1995. There will be no official inter-country crediting of carbon credits during this pilot phase. It is not yet clear how AIJ projects will differ from JI projects with respect to long-term crediting. See Joint Implementation.
Activities implemented jointly. Under a pilot phase that ends by 1999, AIJ activities can be carried out through partnerships between an investor from a developed country and a counterpart in a host country. The purpose is to involve private-sector money in the transfer of technology and know-how. See also Joint Implementation.
