Abu'l-Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Kathir al-Farghani (Arabic: أبو العبّاس أحمد بن محمد بن كثير الفرغاني Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Kathīr, and known as Alfraganus in the West) was a Tajik/Persian astronomer and one of the famous astronomers in 9th century.
Alfraganus is a small lunar impact crater that lies in the rugged highland region to the southwest of the Mare Tranquillitatis. Northwest of Alfraganus is the Delambre crater, and to the south is the irregular Zöllner crater formation. The rim of Alfraganus crater is circular and retains a sharp edge that has not received a significant amount of wear due to subsequent impacts.
