relating to a mode of ascocarp growth in which a perithecium develops within a cushioning hollow of cells (the stroma) which is nested in a depression of the hymenium (a locule). The ascocarps produced by ascolocular growth do not grow into the medium, and the asci are usually bitunicate. Compare ascohymenial.
