Aulonocara is a genus of cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in east Africa. All Aulonocara species are all maternal mouth brooders and females hold the young in their mouths for at least 21 days. There are 23 recognised Aulonocara species, though numerous subspecies or races also exist.
