Although it might seem a bit obvious this term is used to describe wines especially Champagne made exclusively from white grapes, i.e. Champagne (with no Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier - the other permitted grapes). Black grapes are often use in the making of white wines as it is only the skins that give colour.
