Caimans also belong to the subfamily Alligatorinae and like alligators, have relatively wide snouts. There are 6 species of caimans, from tiny dwarf caiman species such as Paleosuchus palpebrosus, to the large black caimans ( Melanosuchus niger). All are found in Central and South America.
