Definitions for "Carrier-to-Noise Ratio"
Keywords:  cnr, decibels, rms, noise, amplitude
The ratio of the received carrier power to the noise power in a given bandwidth expressed in decibels. The CNR is an indicator of how well an earth receiving station will perform in a particular location, and is calculated from satellite power levels, antenna gain and the combined antenna and LNA noise temperature.
The ratio of the root-mean-square (RMS) power of a signal at a specified frequency to the RMS power of the noise in a specified bandwidth, expressed in decibels (dB).
(CNR): The ratio, in decibels, of the level of the carrier to that of the noise in a receiver's IF bandwidth before any nonlinear process such as amplitude limiting and detection takes place.
