The container used to package cigars. There are several types of cigar boxes: Cabinet Selection: these are wooden boxes with a sliding top. Cabinet Selection cigar boxes can hold up between 25 and 50 cigars. 8-9-8: this round-sided box was made to specifically to hold 25 cigars. The cigars are separated into three rows - eight on top row, nine in the middle, eight on the bottom – hence the name. Flat Top: also called a 13-topper, this flat rectangular cigar box is the most popular today; cigars are packaged into two rows – 13 on top and 12 on the bottom, separated by a spacer.. Traditionally, cigar boxes were made of cedar. The cedarwood boxes helped to arrest the drying out process and enhanced maturing. See also Amatista jar, Bundle, Tubos.
