This term is used to describe the five major three-year-old races of the flat season: the 1000 Guineas, the 2000 Guineas, the Derby, the Oaks and the St Leger. Of these, fillies can be entered for all five, but colts cannot be entered for the 1000 Guineas or the Oaks.
The collective term for the 1,000 Guineas, 2,000 Guineas, Oaks, Derby and St Leger. These races are only open to three-year-olds, with the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks just for the female of the species.

In England, for colts – 2,000 Guineas-G1, Epsom Derby-G1, St. Leger S.-G1; for fillies – 1,000 Guineas-G1, Epsom Oaks-G1.
