A company engaged in the assessment and rating of the quality and risks of debt securities, companies, or organizations, in order to aid investment decision. Ratings are based on the ability of the debt issuer to service the debt and repay principal at specified dates. Ratings are usually expressed in alphabets or alphabets together with numbers. In Thailand a credit rating agency must have a license granted by the SEC.
