Definitions for "Doula"
A woman who gives continuous physical, emotional and informational support during labor and birth. Doulas may also provide postpartum care services in the home.
Also called childbirth assistants, doulas are specially trained to provide comfort and support during labor and delivery. A doula often acts as a liaison among the practitioner, nurses, and the parents-to-be. Some doulas will also provide at-home assistance after the baby is born.
