Leclanché cell. electrolytic cell that uses a moist paste rather than a liquid as an electrolyte. Flashlight batteries are dry cells with a zinc cup for an anode, a carbon rod for a cathode, and a paste made of powdered carbon, NH4Cl, ZnCl2, and MnO2 for an electrolyte.
A type of battery. The common AA batteries are of this type. Uses Zinc and Carbon as electrodes and an acidic paste as an electrolyte. The name is derived from its dry nature.
Cell with no running water or toilet. Used by Prisons to locate secreted ( hooped) contraband.
