Coating defect: loss of gloss or sheen.

A reduction in the level of gloss, or D.O.I., of the topcoat, usually due to an interaction between the topcoat and the sealer beneath.

Brushing a metal surface, sometimes with a matting punch or powder, to give it a duller (matte) finish.
