ELECTRONIC CLAIMS SUBMISSION. Transmitting dental claims for adjudication (transfer of a request for payment and/or predetermination) from a practice to a payer. The dental office transmits claims to their clearinghouse, the clearinghouse reformats the data into the 837 format and transmits the claims on to the payers.
Electronic Check Service is a process that converts consumer checks to an electronic funds transfer transaction that is settled either by NOVA for participating institutions or ACH for non-participants.
Electronic Customer Support. Range of IBM services available electronically, initially over dial-up and dedicated lines, now mostly over the Internet. Includes remote diagnostics, marketing, and so on. IBMLink was an early example. There is an ECS service built into the OS/400 operating system.

Electronic Certification System. The ECS provides Federal Program Agencies with the ability to create, certify and transmit payment schedules on a microcomputer, using ECS software. ECS calculates and validates a cryptographic Message Authentication Code (MAC) for each payment schedule.
Electronic Commerce Services. An umbrella of services that would bring electronic mail up to the same level of acceptance that regular mail enjoys today. ECS includes a time and date stamp, return receipt, registered, certified, verification of sender and recipient, and archival services. Plans also call for creating public and private authentification keys to enable individuals to prove who they are when communicating on the Internet.

lectronic harting ystem The generic term used for equipment which displays chart data but which is not intended to comply with IHO Performance Standards for ECDIS. It applies to raster based displays and non-Hydrographic Office approved vector charts.
