Definitions for "Eosin"
A yellow or brownish red dyestuff obtained by the action of bromine on fluoresceïn, and named from the fine rose-red which it imparts to silk. It is also used for making a fine red ink. Its solution is fluorescent.
eos = dawn, rose-coloured; an acidic dye staining the basic cytoplasmic proteins pink.
An acidic dye that has an affinity for cytoplasmic elements. Its yellowish-red color makes it an ideal counter stain to hematoxylin.
