A metallic element of the rare-earth group (Lanthanide series), discovered spectroscopically by Demarcay in 1896. Symbol, Eu; atomic number 63; at. wt., 151.965 (C=12.011); valence = +2 or +3.
(Eu) A metal of the rare earth group that has a chemical property that allows it to be used for time resolved fluorescence (TRF). It can only be used as a tag by attaching a Europium chelate to a ligand or antibody. Typically Eu is detected in solution after release from the chelate.
