Filmmaker is a 30 minute documentary by George Lucas about the making of Francis Ford Coppola's The Rain People. According to the Dale Pollock biography of Lucas, Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas (1983, 1999), it was Lucas who came up with the idea of making the documentary and Coppola readily agreed, paying for the film out of The Rain People 's still photography budget. Armed with a $12,000 budget and an unused production camera, Lucas filmed and recorded sound for the documentary himself.
