Perfected and made popular by short game guru Phil Mickelson, this is an advanced shot with a wedge that strikes the ball with a long, slow, and steep swing and with a wide open clubface, causing the ball to pop up in the air and land soft. This shot is easiest done when there is some air between the ball and the ground and it's used mostly around the green.
A flop shot is a shot in golf in which the player uses a lofted club, such as a sand wedge or a lob wedge, rotates the clubhead to an open position, and strikes down on the ball. This causes the ball to be launched at a very high angle and not travel very far. Also, it creates a high amount of backspin.
