Definitions for "Garters"
These two words have the same meaning, but "suspender" is English while "garter" is American. A suspender is an elastic ribbon used to hold up stockings by fastening them to the corset, girdle or suspender belt. Suspenders are found at the bottom of some corsets and are sometimes removable.
Ribbon tied around the leg to hold up stockings or hose.
Garters are the thin strap with metal or plastic clasps that hang from Bustiers or Corsets that are used to hold up stockings. The straps are usually detachable when not wearing stockings. Not to be confused with the "Leg Garter" which is also known as a Garter. Please see below.
