Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein - this protein, found in microfilaments of glial cells, helps distinguish glial from non-glial tumors. A laboratory stain is used to test for its presence.
Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein is a cellular marker, which is highly concentrated in CNS (central nervous system tissue) and very specific for this tissue. CNS such as brain and spinal cord is considered to be the main carrier of BSE. Therefore it is important that his tissue is excluded from the human food chain and is monitored in the form of final product control.
