The Guanacaste (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) is a large evergreen or briefly deciduous canopy tree found along the coasts of Central America and on certain Caribbean islands. It is known for its large proportions, its expansive, often spherical crown, and its curiously shaped seed pods. The abundance of this tree, especially in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, where it is prized for the shady relief it provides from the intense sun, coupled with its immensity, have made it one of the most widely recognized species.
