A life-threatening illness when the body's temperature-regulating mechanisms fail. Body temperature may rise to over 104 degrees F, skin appears red, dry and warm to the touch. The victim has chills, sometimes nausea and dizziness, and may be confused or irrational. Seizures and coma may follow unless temperature is brought down to 102 degrees within an hour.
A condition resulting from excessive exposure to intense heat, characterized by high fever, collapse, and sometimes convulsions or coma.
Elevated body temperature of 106 degrees F. or greater caused by exposure to excessive heat, creating increased internal heat production combined with diminished heat loss.
A deadly heat stress illness resulting from dehydration and overexertion in warm or hot conditions; can cause body core temperature to rise from normal to 100 or 105 degrees Fahrenheit in just a few minutes.
a life threatening condition resulting form long and extreme exposure to heat, in which a person can't sweat enough to lower body
A life threatening advanced state of heat illness characterised by a failure of the body's thermo-regulatory system. In essence, the body sends too much blood to the surface of the skin in an attempt to cool itself down. This blood is diverted away from organs (eg, the heart), which then begin to shut down.
A very serious condition when the body loses the ability to regulate its own temperature and the internal temperature climbs to a dangerous level (40C and above.) Requires urgent treatment.
A physiologic state induced, like heat exhaustion, by overexposure of the body to high air temperatures, particularly when accompanied by high humidity. Although mainly met in the tropics, many cases have occurred in heat waves in the United States. A heat stroke caused by direct exposure to the sun frequently is termed "sun-stroke".
Medical condition caused by elevated body temperature where the body's internal organs begin to shut down because of excessive heat. Heat stroke is a serious medical condition and requires immediate medical care.
a condition that arises when the body temperature exceeds 106 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in altered mental status; generally caused by exposure to a hot environment. Skin is very dry, red and hot to touch; signs of severe dehydration
a life-threatening condition that sets in when heat exhaustion is left untreated and the body has exhausted its efforts to cool itself. Also called sunstroke.
the most severe form of heat illness and is a life-threatening emergency. It is the result of long, extreme exposure to the sun, in which a person does not sweat enough to lower body temperature.
Body temperature rises and body does not perspire to reduce temperature.
a heat related condition which is serious and life threatening. The victim will show rapid pulse, no sweating, and hot skin. It is caused by prolonged exposure to high temperature.
acute, dangerous reaction to heat exposure, characterized by a body temperature above 106° F (41.1° C). The body ceases to perspire.
a life-threatening condition resulting from extreme overexposure to heat, which disrupts the body's system of regulating temperature
Condition of rapidly rising internal body temperature that overwhelms the body's mechanisms for release of heat and could result in death if not cared for appropriately.
when the body becomes dangerously overheated through exercise in extremely hot conditions.
A core body temperature that rises above 104°F (40°C) accompanied by hot, dry skin and central nervous system abnormalities such as delirium, convulsions, or coma. Heat stroke that results from exposure to a high environmental temperature is called nonexertional heat stroke. Heat stroke that results from strenuous exercise is called exertional heat stroke. Irrespective of type, heat stroke can be LIFE-THREATENING! Immediate medical attention is essential when problems first begin. Symptoms may include confusion, combativeness, bizarre behavior, faintness, staggering, strong rapid pulse, dry flushed skin, lack of sweating, possible delirium or coma. "Sunstroke." The body's temperature control system, which produces sweat to cool the body, stops working. The skin is flushed, hot and dry, and body temperature may be elevated. This is the most serious of all heat related and victims should seek medical attention.
A condition resulting from the failure of the body’s normal temperature control mechanisms; characterized by a cessation of sweating and a potentially fatal elevation of body temperature.
elevated body temperature of 105.8 degrees F or greater, caused by exposure to excessive heat or heat production and diminished heat loss.
High body fever due to lack of perspiration.
Introduced to the body by overexposure to high temperatures, particularly when accompanied by high humidity. The signs of heat stroke include when an individual's body temperature is greater than 105°F, the skin is hot and dry, there is a rapid and irregular pulse, perspiration has stopped, and one has lost consciousness. Seek immediate medical aid. May be called a sun-stroke when caused by direct exposure to the sun.
