Hepatotoxicity (from hepatic toxicity) is chemical-driven liver damage. Chemicals that cause liver damage are called hepatotoxins. It is a possible side-effect of certain medications, but can also be caused by chemicals used in laboratories and industry, and natural chemicals, like microcystins.
