An electronic device that plays phonograph records, reproducing the original sound with a high degree of fidelity. It superseded the older phonographs, and itself is being displaced in popularity by CD players.
Short for High Fidelity, the high-quality audio format used in some VHS videocassette recorders. A VHS HiFi VCR can provide excellent sound quality. Contrasted with VHS linear tracks, which offer poor sound quality.
