The Hokkaido (北海é“犬 HokkaidÅ-ken or HokkaidÅ-inu) is a breed of dog. Other names for the breed include Ainu-ken, Seta, and Shita. In Japan, its name is sometimes shortened to DÅ-ken.
The Chinese Elm U. parvifolia cultivar Hokkaido is a dwarf variety relatively common in commercial cultivation on both sides of the Atlantic. An older cultivar of Japanese origin, it has been considered "too small for common size bonsai" (Valavanis, 1982).
