Most are made of redwood or cedar and can have an internal vinyl liner to keep the water away from the wood. Equipped with heaters, air jets and filters, hot tubs provide relaxing baths, arthritis relief and enjoyment. Sizes can vary. The term "hot tub" is used, somewhat, interchangeably with the term "spa."

It may also have jets to bubble the water. The water is not drained after each use. An average-size hot tub holds 200 to 400 gallons of water. All reported hot tubs are assumed to include an electric pump. These are also called spas or jacuzzis.
