independent basic service set. Collectively, a set of wireless clients connected without an access point, also known as peer-to-peer and ad hoc operating modes. See also BSS and EBSS.
Independent Basic Service Set. A BSS which forms a self contained network containing only stations, and in which no AP is present.
An IBSS, also called an Ad-hoc network, is defined as two or more computers with wireless adapters within range of each other that form an independent (wireless) network without the need of an access point (AP).
Independent Basic Service Set. A local network configuration that is set up by clients and in which the clients communicate directly with each other. This ad-hoc network mode is specified by the 802.11 standard for client radio network interface cards (NIC).
