Cables that are used to connect different pieces of electronics. This equipment includes amps, preamps, cd players, turntables and tuners. The connection between your amp and speaker are not interconnects, but rather speaker cables. Interconnects can be terminated in two ways; Single-ended and Balanced. Single-ended interconnects are the most popular. They use the traditional RCA connection (phono plug) to mate with your equipment. Balanced interconnects use a completely different connection type that uses three conductors (positive, negative and ground). Balanced interconnects are usually more expensive and are better for long runs (over 3 meters).
Cables that are used to connect components at a low signal level. Some examples include CD player to receiver, DVD player to receiver, receiver to powered sub, etc. Most interconnects use a shielded construction to prevent interference and use "RCA" type connections.
Any cable or wire running between two pieces of electronic equipment.
carrying low voltage signals from the CD player say to the preamp and from the preamp to amp.
Cables that are used to connect components at a low signal level. Examples include CD player to receiver, pre-amplifier to amplifier, etc. Most interconnects use a shielded construction to prevent interference. Most audio interconnects use RCA connections although balanced interconnects use XLR connections.
Also called RCA plug and phono plug. A plug designed especially for the quick connection and disconnection of coaxial cables used with audio and other low frequency devices.
