A condition in which a print has been affixed to a mount to give it greater strength or to repair minor tears. A paper conservator may be required to remove the backing. "Laid to cardboard as issued" means that the artist or publisher intended the use of a support. See mounted.
or Lined: As with backed, this is sometimes done to provide stability when a work is damaged, or for framing, in which case only conservation materials should be used.
This term is used when the print has been pasted or glued to another surface such as card or paper. It can present conservation problems and is not good practice.
