Lear is an opera by the German composer Aribert Reimann, based on Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear. The title role was written specifically for the baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, who appeared in the premiere at the Nationaltheater, Munich on 9 July 1978.
