Having to do with lysis. In biology, lysis refers to the disintegration of a cell by disruption of its plasma membrane. Lysis can be caused by chemical or physical means (e.g., high-energy sound waves) or by a virus infection.
Lesion: The damaged area of a bone that shows up as a dark spot on an X-ray when enough of the healthy bone in any one area is eaten away. Lytic lesions look like holes in the bone and are evidence that the bone is being weakened.
A bone lesion or tumor that appears gray or shadowed on an X-ray due to destruction of bone and lowered bone density. Common for breast cancer patients. A.k.a. osteolytic.
