Essentially a practice landing where the airplane approaches the runway as if it was going to land, but at a predetermined altitude, the power comes up and the landing gear is raised.
An instrument approach not completed by landing due to: (1) visual contact not established at authorized minimums; or (2) landing not completed due to other reasons; or (3) instructions from air traffic control.
The segment flown between the MAP (see above) and the Missed Approach fix.
Missed Approach is an instrument flight rules procedure which is a standard (but optional) component segment of an instrument approach.http://www.faa.gov/education_research/training/media/cfit/volume1/Ref1.pdf FAA Decision Makers Guide Generally, if the pilot in command determines by the time the aircraft is at the decision height (for a precision approach) or missed approach point (for a non-precision approach), that the runway or its environment is not in sight, or that a safe landing cannot be accomplished for any reason, the landing approach must be discontinued and the missed approach procedure must be initiated immediately.
