National Cholesterol Education Program. Launched by the National Institutes of Health's (NIH's) National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in 1985, the NCEP works to reduce the incidence of high cholesterol and heart disease in the US by establishing guidelines and recommendations on cholesterol management and promoting them to health care professionals, patients, and the general public.
