Therapy given before the primary surgical treatment in order to shrink a tumor.
The use of a different kind of therapy before the use of what is considered a more definitive therapy, e.g. the use of neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) prior to radiation therapy of PC or the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery for breast cancer. Neoadjuvant is contrasted to adjuvant, which relates to the use of another therapy after the so-called more definitive therapy, e.g. ADT after RT
Initial treatment which is not the primary therapy (for instance, chemotherapy or radiation, prior to surgery). It is often administered in instances of locally advanced disease in the hope that the size of the tumor is reduced in order that it might be surgically removed.
Added before; for example, neoadjuvant hormone therapy is hormone therapy given prior to another form of treatment such as a radical prostatectomy
Done or added before the primary treatment; for example, neoadjuvant hormone therapy could be given prior to another form of treatment such as a radical prostatectomy; compare to adjuvant.
The use of a different type of therapy before primary, curative treatment. For example, neoadjuvant Androgen Deprivation Therapy is often used prior to radiation therapy or radical surgery, with the intent of improving the effectiveness of the primary treatment by reducing the size of the tumor and/or prostate gland.
Therapy that is used before the main, or primary, therapy. For instance, neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) used before radiation therapy
