An acronym for Pre Fade Listen. Broadcasters would call it cueing. Sound folks call it being able to solo a channel with the fader down.
Pre Fader Listen. A monitor circuit that allows an engineer to listen to and/or meter a channel signal without changing or altering the channel fader setting.
pre fader listen. Monitoring an audio signal before it has passed through the main faders of a mixing console. This form of monitoring is non-destructive during mixdown.
Pre-Fade-Listen. Circuitry and buss in a mixer which takes the signal form a channel before the fader and routes it to an isolated monitor system (usually headphones). This feature allows the operator to hear what a channel sounds like BEFORE it's turned on. This is helpful for checking up on wireless microphones (to see if they've been turned on) and to help identify who’s using what microphone. More than one channel can be PFL'd at once. Also known as a cue switch or solo switch. see also AFL; cue; solo

Abbr.f. "Pre Fade Listen" is a system used within a mixing console to allow the operator to listen in on a selected signal, regardless of the position of the fader controlling that signal.
