Greek lyric poet remembered for his odes (518?-438? BC)

A lyric poet of the sixth and fifth century, whose epinicean odes immortalize victors at Olympia, Delphi, Isthmia, and Nemea.

Pindar (or Pindarus) (probably * 522 BC in Cynoscephalae; † 443 BC in Argos), was perhaps the greatest of the nine lyric poets of ancient Greece.

The peanut (Arachis hypogæa); -- so called in the West Indies.
