Poisson is a lunar crater that is located in the southern highlands of the Moon's near side. It lies to the east of Aliacensis crater and northwest of Gemma Frisius. To the northwest of Poisson is the Apianus crater.

Based on the work of Siméon-Denis Poisson(18 th Century Mathematician), the Poisson distribution is a discrete probability distribution sometimes used for calculating trunks. It assumes that if callers get busy signals, they keep trying until they successfully get through. Since some callers won't keep retrying, Poisson can overestimate trunks required.
