Material added to the air stream on initial process start-up to aid in establishing an initial dustcake on the filter bags.
The application of a granular filter medium, such as diatomaceous earth or powdered activated carbon to a membrane or screen or other filtration surface, prior to the service cycle of a filter.
Refers to the depositing of diatomaceous earth (D.E.) onto the filter grids or elements. A very fine granular filter medium, such as D.E., applied (usually by slurry) to a retaining membrane or fabric surface prior to a service run.
The layer of filter aid (usually D.E.) formed on the media surface by introducing a slurry (generally between .1 and .2 lbs. per square foot of surface area) to the medium at the beginning of the filter cycle.
The application, usually by slurry, of a very fine granular filter medium such as diatomaceous earth to a retainingmembrane or fabric surface prior to a service run. Precoating makes the medium unfit for further use. At the end of each service run, the precoat medium is rinsed off and disposed of prior to application of a new precoat to the filter septum.
A flux coat which is applied to a metal surface, prior to soldering or brazing to protect the metal from oxidizing, to dissolve existing oxides and to indicate the temperature since it melts at the proper temperature for soldering or brazing.
