Residential and small commercial customers of the Affiliate Retail Electric Provider receive a standard rate offering, or “Price to Beat” set by the PUC. This rate is designed to give customers of the AREP a discount, and allow competing REPs the opportunity to offer lower rates. The “Price to Beat” rate includes a six-percent rate reduction, adjusted for fuel prices.
A price for electricity, as determined pursuant to the Public Utility Regulatory Act § 39.202, charged by an affiliated retail electric provider to eligible residential and small commercial customers in its service area.
On the date competition begins, the affiliated Retail Electric Provider will lower rates for small business and residential customers by six percent. This is the "price to beat," meaning competitors will most likely offer even lower rates to attract customers. (Due to a recent lowering of rates in the Entergy service area, those customers will not experience the six-percent decrease.)
