An index using calculations of stock prices added together to compute a figure that indicates the general state of the market. The Dow Jones Index would be an example.
A stock index in which each stock is represented in the index in proportion to its price per share. Examples are the DJIA and the DAX 100. See also market-value weighted index and market-share weighted index.
A stock index which is computed by adding the prices of each stock in the index, and then dividing by the divisor. See also Capitalization-weighted index, Divisor.
