A structure used to move wastewater uphill, against gravity.
A station that is necessary to pump water around a city or over elevated terrain.
The lift station located on the R.M. Clayton WRC site at the end of the tunnel to lift flow up to the treatment plant. The pump station will be constructed as a separate contract from the Nancy Creek Tunnel.
The Tony Creek PumpStation at 1-32-62-24-W5 was built to push the contents of the Peace Pipeline up the Pipeline Hump and the Tower Ridge. When they found a way to build a detour in the Valley (and probably install a stronger pump further upline - I'll ask) it became obsolete. After '97 the transceiver tower was dismantled.
Sewer pipes are generally gravity driven. Wastewater flows slowly downhill until it reaches a certain low point. Then pump, or "lift," stations push the wastewater back uphill to a high point where gravity can once again take over the process.
