Reaction Control Subsystem
RCS is a software package that manages multiple revisions of text files. An RCS file contains multiple revisions of text, an access list, a change log, descriptive text, and some control attributes.
evision ontrol ystem. RCS was developped to store several different versions of a file. With RCS, you're able to store and restore a file in different versions, log the changes between the versions or even merge different versions of a file.
Refers to the level of signal reflected from the radar target. The term RCS pattern refers to the manner in which a specific target at a specific frequency varies in reflective signal level as the target is rotated.
(Remote Control Section) A type of Lionel track for unloading and uncoupling.
Reloadable Control Storage. The main firmware area in the IBM mainframe architecture.
(Revision Control System): A source code control system used in some UNIX environments to manage the software development process.
Revision Control System. The Revision Control System (RCS) manages multiple revisions of files. RCS automates the storing, retrieval, logging, identification, and merging of revisions.

A Version Control System created by Dr. Walter F. Tichy in the early 1980's. RCS is very similar in implementation to SCCS* , but has improved many portions of the interface. For example, Keywords* are expanded somewhat differently, suffixes are used for the archive file instead of the prefix which simplifies the issue of Makefile rules.
Revision Control System. A system that keeps track of different versions of files. If one person is editing a source no other developer may do so. Thus all sources are by default read-only. When a file is checked out by a developer, they may change it but no other developer may check it out at the same time. When a developer is finished, they may check in the file thus allowing others to check it out.
Reaction Control System. The set of steering jets located at various points on the exterior of a spacecraft used to control the attitude of a spacecraft and effect small changes in velocity. Also called "steering jets" or "attitude control thrusters." The term "quad" is often used to describe a cluster of four RCS jets arranged orthogonally.

Remote Computer Services. Services providing global access to full text journals, books, databases, and other electronic resources to those affiliated with USUHS. Users must meet the criteria for LRC library privileges and apply for an RCS account (under Quick Links on the LRC homepage).
