Definitions for "Rebel Yell"
A high-pitched cry that Confederate soldiers would shout when attacking. First heard at First Manassas (First Bull Run) Union troops found the eerie noise unnerving.
Rebel Yell is the second album by British rocker Billy Idol, released in 1984 (see 1984 in music). "Eyes Without a Face" and "Flesh for Fantasy" had hit videos on MTV. The album reunited the hit-making team of Billy Idol, Steve Stevens and Keith Forsey, after their success with Idol's solo debut, Billy Idol (1982).
The rebel yell (sometimes called the Pibroch of the Confederacy) was a battle cry used by Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. Confederate soldiers would use the yell during charges to intimidate the enemy and boost their own morale, although the yell had other uses. The exact sound of the yell is unknown and the subject of much speculation and debate.
