Reprimands were introduced under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to replace police cautions for young offenders. They are similar to a caution and depend on an admission of guilt. A reprimand will normally be the first intervention taken by the police unless the crime is considered too serious, in which case the police will proceed straight to a Final warning or refer the matter to the court.
