These documents are used to specify open internet standards and are in general discussed in meetings of the IETF (see IETF).

(Request For Comments) The working notes of the committees that develop the protocols and standards of the Internet, including proposed changes. These documents contain a great deal of info about the Net and are maintained by the Internet Activities Board (IAB). See STD and FYI.

IETF documents suggesting protocols and policies of the Internet, inviting comments as to the quality and validity of those policies. These comments are collected and analyzed by the IETF in order to finalize Internet standards.
