Definitions for "Richard III"
King of England from 1483 to 1485; seized the throne from his nephew Edward V who was confined to the Tower of London and murdered; his reign ended when he was defeated by Henry Tudor (later Henry VII) at the battle of Bosworth Field (1452-1485)
The Tragedy of King Richard the third is William Shakespeare's version of the short reign of Richard III of England, who receives a singularly unflattering depiction. The play is sometimes interpreted as a tragedy (as it is called in its earliest quarto); however, it more correctly belongs among the histories, as it is in the First Folio. It is a Shakespearean attempt to adapt history into theatre.
Richard III is a 1995 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Richard III, starring Sir Ian Mc Kellen, Annette Bening, Jim Broadbent, Robert Downey Jr., Nigel Hawthorne, Kristin Scott Thomas, Dame Maggie Smith, and John Wood.
