(Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors). See Reverse Transcriptase.
REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE INHIBITOR. a drug that blocks retroviral replication by interfering with the reverse transcriptase enzyme. RTI include nucleoside analogs (AZT, ddC, ddI, d4T, 3TC, abacavir) and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (nevirapine, delavirdine, efavirenz).
reverse transcriptase inhibitor. a drug that blocks retroviral replication by interfering with the reverse transcriptase enzyme. RTI drugs are not effective after a cell has already been infected. RTI drugs include nucleoside analogs (e.g., AZT, ddI, 3TC, d4T) and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (e.g., nevirapine, delavirdine).
