Interest bearing deposit accounts that can be either passbook or statement format.

Interest bearing accounts on which the depository institution pays interest on the balance in the account. Advance notice of intent to withdraw funds may be required. These include passbook, statement savings, money market deposit accounts with no or limited check writing privileges and CDs.

Savings are often kept in bank, building society or National Savings accounts. The amount you put in does not fall in value but may grow as interest is added.
